KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will officiate the opening ceremony of the first meeting of the fourth term of the14th Parliament on Sept 6.
Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun said he had received notification on the matter from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Leader of the House in accordance with the Standing Order 11(2) of the Dewan Rakyat.
"The first meeting of the fourth term of the 14th Parliament 2021 will sit for 15 days from Sept 6 to 30.
"The second meeting will take place from Oct 25 to Dec 16," he said in a statement today.
Azhar said he had also been informed by the prime minister that for the benefit of the public, it was important to hold a special Parliament session first before convening the first meeting, in accordance with the Standing Order 11 (3) of the Dewan Rakyat.
Azhar said His Majesty had given his consent for the prime minister to hold the special meeting even though the Emergency proclaimed on jan 11 is still in effect.
"In this regard, Dewan Rakyat secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin will issue a notification to all members of Parliament (MPs) informing them that the Dewan Rakyat (special session) will sit for five days, namely from July 26 to July 29 and on August 2 at 10am," he said.
Azhar also reminded all MPs to always adhere to the standard operating procedures set to ensure that the special session takes place in a safe environment.
