KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today received over RM65 million in business tithe for 2022 and 2023 on behalf of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP).

The symbolic ceremony for the payment of RM65,379,959 from 16 corporate companies took place at Istana Negara.

The 16 companies include Companies Commission of Malaysia, FGV Group, Lembaga Tabung Haji, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, Co-opbank Pertama Malaysia Berhad and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad.

Others are TH Travel Sdn Bhd, Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, Rakyat Management Services Sdn Bhd, Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad, Malakoff Corporation Berhad, Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad and Wasco Berhad.

Also present at the ceremony were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, MAIWP chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar and PPZ-MAIWP chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

Meanwhile, PPZ-MAIWP, in a statement, said that it has successfully collected RM109,306,371.70 in business tithe from 3,504 contributors between January and October this year.

"As we approach the end of 2023, PPZ-MAIWP would like to invite the Muslim community to expedite their zakat payments to avoid last-minute transactions," it said.
