Ahmad Said was approached by PAS, turned down offer

Former Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said admitted that he was approached by a few PAS members who persuaded him to join their party.

He however turned down the offer politely.

He added that that Bukit Besi state assemblyman Roslee Daud and Ajil rep Ghazali Taib are loyal UMNO members and will not turn their back against the party despite being labelled as 'traitors' by certain quarters.

“The question about ‘traitor’ did not arise. This is a matter of the struggle. I came back because I love UMNO,” Ahmad Said told reporters at his residence in Kemaman today.

On Monday, Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman took over the helm of the state from Ahmad Said, who resigned to make way for his successor.

However, Ahmad Said, who is Kijal state assemblyman, quit UMNO and declared himself an independent state assemblyman, the same day.

Ghazali and Roslee had later followed suit, triggering a political shock.

The crisis has now been resolved with all leaders who resigned from UMNO expected to return to its fold following a meeting with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today.

"I have spoken to the PM. I thank him for his understanding I hope we will all continue to support Datuk Seri Najib. We will strive to maintain BN’s mandate in Terengganu, "he added.

According to Ahmad Said, he has been an active UMNO member since he was 19-years old, adding that he and other assemblymen will pledge full support to Ahmad Razif.
