Ahmad Zahid gives guarantee no BN politician will head MACC
BN will not appoint any elected representative or politicians from the coalition as MACC Chief Commissioner if it forms the government after the GE15, its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. - BERNAMA/Filepic
BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional (BN) will not appoint any elected representative or politicians from the coalition as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner if it forms the government after the 15th general election (GE15), its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
He said this was a clear signal of BN's efforts to weed out corruption and the misperception that it was involved in corrupt practices.
"Once BN becomes a strong government (after GE15), we will take action against anyone, including those from BN or any party that is involved in corruption.
"This I guarantee. We will ensure the perception (that BN is corrupt) is proven wrong by not appointing an MACC chief commissioner from any of the political parties. It will be absolutely independent and free from selective persecution.
Ahmad Zahid, who is the Bagan Datuk incumbent MP, told reporters this after a meet and greet session with the Chinese community in Hutan Melintang here today.
He was responding to questions on how rival parties had been using corruption as ammunition to attack the coalition in their campaigns.
Ahmad Zahid made it clear that BN's commitment to combat corruption is not mere rhetoric, adding that comprehensive efforts will be made to improve the MACC in terms of enforcement, prosecution and investigation.
