DUBAI: The public should adopt practical, technology-driven strategies to counter misinformation, AI Seer founder and CEO Dennis Yap said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a forum titled The AI Misinformation Feedback Loop: Practical AI for Governments, Enterprises & Everyday Users, Yap said artificial intelligence can both curb and amplify misinformation, depending on how it is developed and managed.

“Everyone has that relative who forwards fake news over WhatsApp. Instead of correcting them each time, automation could help ease the process,” he said.

Yap said automated tools could streamline fact-checking and reduce the burden of repeated explanations, enabling individuals to respond more quickly and accurately when false information spreads.

He added that technology should support critical thinking rather than replace human judgement as societies adapt to AI’s growing role in communication.
