LABUAN: Aidiladha sacrificial rites were conducted at eight permitted open spaces here, in full compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set.
Labuan police chief Supt Ahmad Jawila said monitoring would be conducted at the open spaces that had been approved by the Federal Territory of Labuan Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) till evening.
"Checks conducted by the police together with JAWI enforcement and Labuan Corporation personnel found that the organisers that have been given the special permission to conduct the sacrificial rites comply with the SOP," he told Bernama today.
Ahmad said 10 teams comprising 30 policemen and 10 Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (RELA) personnel were dispatched to monitor the sacrifial rites conducted at the eight slaughtering and cutting up areas.
Yesterday, Bernama reported that Labuan JAWI had given special permission to three government agencies and four non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to conduct the animal sacrifice ritual in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidil Adha celebration in Labuan today.
Its senior principal assistant director, Sharidah Zainal Abidin said the korban ritual must be carried out with strict adherence to the SOP set at eight open spaces that had been approved.
These include four Fire and Rescue station grounds, Labuan police station, Customs Housing Complex in Bukit Kuda, Kg. Sg. Bedaun Community Hall and Kg. Lajau open space, next to Masjid Sultan Muhammad V which involve the NGOs.
Meanwhile, the three government agencies given special permission to conduct the korban are the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police and Royal Customs Department.
The NGOs involved are the Masjid Nurul Iman Kg. Sg. Bedaun Committee, Kelab Kebajikan dan Rekreasi Kakitangan UMSKAL, Aman Palestine Berhad and Persatuan Badan Kebajikan Pejabat Mufti.
