More than 40,000 policemen, including officers, will be on duty nationwide during the Aidilfitri celebration to maintain peace and order, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today.
More than 40,000 policemen, including officers, will be on duty nationwide during the Aidilfitri celebration to maintain peace and order, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today.
He said the number was higher compared with last year to face any possible Daesh threat during the festive season.
He also said there would be 8,000 traffic policemen and officers on duty during the Aidilfitri celebration to monitor and ensure smooth traffic flow.
"Apart from that, the number of policemen and officers on duty at the country borders will also be increased and patrol to be stepped up.
"The police are always prepared against any threats , especially Daesh and any terrorist groups from infiltrating into the country," he told a media conference after presenting the Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) raya cookies at Bukit Aman here.
On the death of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) student Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, 21, who was believed to have been abused, last June 1, Khalid said the police were still investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"Investigation is ongoing and we have not completed recording statements from the suspects and witnesses," he added.
