Air quality affected by Mount Sinabung volvano eruption - DOE
Air quality in several states was recorded moderate due to the eruption of the Mount Sinabung volcano in North Sumatera, Indonesia on Sunday.
Among areas that recorded poor air quality were Kangar in Perlis; Banting and Port Klang in Selangor; Nilai and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; Bukit Rambai and Melaka town; Bakar Arang (Kedah); Seberang Jaya 2 (Penang); Kampung Air Putih (Perak); Tanah Merah and Tanjung Chat (Kelantan); Sibu (Sarawak) and Keningau in Sabah.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE) no areas recorded poor Air Pollution Index (API).
The department said there was no change in the trend of air quality throughout the country to detect Particulate Matter of Less than 10 micrometer in diameter-PM10 or detect the presence of Sulphur Dioxide (SO2).
The situation which is expected to continue until Feb 6 may disrupt flight schedules and reduce visibility.
