SUBRAMANIAM: Based on surveillance data, HFMD cases will peak every three years and the highest number of cases occurred in 2012 totalling 34,519 cases with one death.
All 18 pupils of Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Chinese) Lick Hung, USJ Selangor, who were detected with hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) are in a stable condition and being treated as outpatients, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said the classes involved were closed for cleaning purposes.
"The cleaning of the school premises was jointly conducted on Monday and Tuesday (April 27 and 28) by the school and the school's Parent Teachers Association.
"Each classroom is provided with hand sanitizers for use by students. The school will monitor students for HFMD symptoms on a daily basis and identify students who do not attend school," Subramaniam said at a press conference on the current HFMD situation in his ministry, Wednesday.
He said that based on surveillance data, HFMD cases will peak every three years and the highest number of cases occurred in 2012 totalling 34,519 cases with one death.
