No Malaysian staff working at Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Makkah Metro Southern Line (MMMSL) were involved in the stampede in Mina, in which more than 450 pilgrims were reported killed so far.
MMMSL Project director, Khairani Mohamed said there were 440 Malaysians, mostly employees of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) working under MMMSL.
"All of our staff is safe. However, we will monitor and step up surveillance at the stations to ensure the safety of pilgrims using our service," he said in a statement today.
According to Saudi Civil Defence Department general directorate, so far 453 pilgrims were confirmed dead while 719 were injured in the incident in the tents' zone of Arab countries in Mina.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a media conference on the matter said no Malaysian pilgrims were involved in the stampede incident in Mina during the 'stoning of the devil' ritual today.
