Women, heads up!
If you need to learn a thing or two about endometriosis, make your way to a workshop to be held at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Petaling Jaya this weekend.
This word may be a familiar name to many but it affects women around the globe every year.
In Malaysia, endometriosis is presumably a taboo subject. Leading to a general unawareness on what it is and why some women suffer from this condition.
Bearing this in mind, the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Endometriosis Association (MyEndosis) in collaboration with UTAR is organising a workshop to give the public a better comprehension of the subject.
Aimed to create awareness on endometriosis, the workshop will help women cope and deal with the condition. The workshop is hoped to create a platform for females to learn from their experiences when it comes to dealing with endometriosis.
MyEndosis President Surita Mogan said Endometriosis happens when endometrial cells from the uterus develop in other areas of the body and may cause pain, irregular bleeding and infertility.
“It is a known fact that endometriosis impacts the physical, social and mental well being of females during their productive period of their life.
“The main concern is that there is a delay before the average females when diagnosed. The delay can be primarily blamed on the lack of awareness in Malaysia mainly due to the social taboos associated with it (endometriosis).
The workshop comprises of five sessions including yoga, fertility, nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine and pain management.
The workshop will be held on Saturday between 8.30am and 4pm at PD Block, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, No 9 Jalan Bersatu, 13/4 Petaling Jaya.
Admission fees: RM35 (UTAR students/staff)/RM40 (public).
