The Perlis Fatwa Committee meeting on Friday decided that the allegation that Prophet Muhammad was 'present' in the 'Selawat Ke Atas Rasulullah' event was baseless.
Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said the allegation that the Prophet was visibly seen in the state of wakefulness (yaqazah) at such an event was unacceptable, either in the pure form or in spirit after his death.
"It has never been mentioned in any authentic source that such incident ever occurred among the companions of the Prophet," he told a press conference at his office here.
He said the allegation, which had gone viral on YouTube, was indeed a dubious allegation and had been refuted by the 'Muhaqqiqin' (Seekers of the Truth), such as Al-Nawaei, Ibn Taimiyyah, Ibn Kathir and Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani.
Another allegation which stated that the reading of certain Quranic verses could make Prophet Muhammad to be 'present' in an event was also baseless, he added.
