Australian actress Eliza Szonert who allegedly abducted her son from her ex-husband, Ashley Crick, here on Dec 10, was released yesterday.
Brickfields police chief, ACP Shahrul Othman Mansor, said Szonert was released on the advice of the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) after a review of the investigation papers.
"The problem arose when the former husband (Crick) made a police report whereas the Australian court had issued 'Equal Custody' of their son. It was due to dissatisfaction of the former husband although the problem had already been settled in Australia," he said in a statement today.
The DPP suggested that the two guardians sign a pledge of "Equal Custody' for their son at the Australian embassy in Malaysia pursuant to the court order in Australia.
"Our priority at the moment is to ensure the child is given protection. We leave it to the lawyers from both sides to follow-up," said Shahrul.
Szonert was arrested when she surrendered herself at a police station in the city after Crick lodged a police report that she had abducted their son at a shopping mall here, on Dec 10.
