The Home Affairs Ministry on Monday revealed that there are several security companies allegedly managed by unlawful triads.
Following the revelation, non-government agency, Security Services Association of Malaysia (PPKKM) said the matter was unearthed following vice activities on leasing license.
To date, nearly 80 licenses involving security companies in the country are leased to triads.
PPKKM Presiden Datuk Sri Mustapa Ali said most of the companies operate in housing and construction areas.
He said, the leasing of licenses happens even when the majority shareholders of the security company are made up of those who had previously served in the military and police force.
“Most of the holders of the security license are from triads but they lease the licences to triads who may not have security licenses or are illegal groups,” he said.
In a related development, Mustapa also revealed that some 80 percent of the Klang Valley, including Port Klang and Subang are protected by triads.
“We have informed KDN to take action. PPKMM does not have the authority to take action as it is up to the ministry to cooperate with the police.
“Let the relevant authorities take action so that this matter can be prevented or eliminated. If no action is taken, the issue would escalate and become even more serious,” he said.
Mustapa also said that a 'task force' was set up with KDN, police and immigration three months ago to combat the problem.
So far, there are over 200,000 local and Nepali security guards who are currently employed as security personnel in Malaysia.
