Three robbers broke into two automated teller machines (ATM) at a supermarket off the 14.4km Jalan Cheras here early Sunday and escaped with RM270,920.
They were believed to have used oxy-acetylene gas to break into the ATMs, located 15 metres from each other, and belonging to separate banks.
Initial police investigations revealed the break-in at the supermarket in Taman Cheras Utama occurred about 2.30am.
Kajang police deputy chief Supt Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said the police were informed of the incident by a security supervisor of the supermarket at 7.10am.
He said, based on the closed-circuit television recording, the three male robbers did not wear masks, adding however, the recording was unclear.
"Nonetheless, they appeared to be skilful in carrying out the crime," he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said the two ATMs appeared to have been partly torched by the robbers during the break-in.
Abdul Ghani said the supermarket employed security guards only from 7am to 10pm daily.
