Altman says AI’s rise won’t rob humans of purpose
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman speaking at GITEX Global 2025 in Dubai, where he said AI will inevitably become smarter than humans but will not take away humanity’s sense of purpose or fulfilment.
DUBAI: Artificial intelligence will inevitably become more intelligent than humans, but this shift will not diminish humanity’s pursuit of happiness or meaning, said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

AI Brief
  • Sam Altman believes AI will become smarter than humans, including his own child born in 2025.
  • He says this shift wont affect human fulfilment and urges reflection on what superintelligence means for humanity.
  • Altman warns that automation and self-replicating systems could reshape industries and human-technology interaction.

Speaking at GITEX Global 2025 on Tuesday, Altman reflected on the future of AI and its impact on human life. “I have a kid that was born in 2025. I don’t think he’ll ever be smarter than AI,” Altman said. “I don’t think that’ll get in the way of his happiness or fulfilment at all. It’s sort of strange, but to him, it’s the only growth he’ll ever know.”
Altman urged society to reflect on what the rise of superintelligence reveals about the human condition, noting that many overlook its deeper implications.
Responding to a question from moderator Amandeep Bhangu, Altman also addressed the issue of automation and physical self-replication. “The industry talks a lot about AI that can do other AI research, but very little about data centres that can build other data centres or robots that can build other robots,” he said.
He emphasised that such developments could fundamentally reshape technology, industry, and the way humans interact with intelligent systems.
