KUALA LUMPUR: A state assemblyman from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Muhammad Faiz Fadzil has denied allegations of outraging the modesty of a woman.
In a media statement, the Permatang Pasir assemblyman said he was considering taking legal action to clear his name.
“I confirmed that I was called for a police investigation on March 18 in connection with a police report against me.
“I have cooperated with the police and will continue to cooperate to assist the investigation process.
“I have given my statement to the police. I deny the allegations.
“Details of my defence could not be disclosed as the investigation is still ongoing.
"I am also in discussion with a team of lawyers to take appropriate legal action to clear my name," he said.
Muhammad Faiz said that for now, he will continue his duties as the people's representative as usual.
Earlier, the media reported that the police were investigating an assemblyman from a state in the north of the Peninsula for allegedly outraging the modesty of a shop assistant who was also a member of his party two weeks ago.
The 31-year-old woman had made a police report on March 16 alleging the politician had acted indecently when they went out shopping at a shopping complex in Subang.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Khalid Othman, confirmed that the case was being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or any two such punishments.
