American companies delighted with Malaysia's decision to join TPP - Najib
NAJIB: They said the TPP will make Malaysia, ASEAN and every participating country involved (in the negotiations) more competitive.
American companies are very happy with Malaysia's decision to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
"They have expressed their appreciation (to us) as the negotiation process had already been finalised. It is now in the domestic ratification process.
"They said the TPP will make Malaysia, ASEAN and every participating country involved (in the negotiations) more competitive," he said after meeting members of the US-ASEAN Business Council and US Chambers of Commerce here Tuesday.
"They also welcomed other ASEAN countries, which have shown keen interest to follow Malaysia's footsteps, including Indonesia which has sought information from Malaysia about what we have been through, showing keenness to become a TPP member in the future," he said.
The US companies are also satisfied with Malaysia's business-friendly attitude, the return of their investments and prospects.
"This shows that our policies in continuing to make changes to our economy are well received by foreign countries, especially the United States business community," he said.
Among US companies present at the meeting were JP Morgan MasterCard, Paypal, Walmart and Uber.
