Angelababy, A Princess In Her Wedding Gown

Angelababy is one of the most prominent actresses and a fashion icon, and she is also dubbed the ‘Kim Kardashian of China’. Her wedding dress was intricately crafted by Dior and embraces a balance of tradition and innovation. The wedding dress encapsulates the unique savoir-faire possessed by the petites mains in the Dior haute couture ateliers. The custom-made Dior wedding dress took five months to complete and the atelier Flou provided the location for the group of extremely talented petites mains to create a customised wedding dress for Angelababy. Taking the superstar’s wishes into account, a pattern maker interpreted her desires onto paper and a seamstress followed the dress from conception to the wedding ceremony itself.

Dior produced a toile in satin organza in order to have a working model that resembled the final garment as close as possible. To form Angelababy’s bespoke wedding dress, the toile was constructed and moulded on a wooden body form matching the young woman’s measurements. Creating the dress necessitated thirty-five metres of ivory satin organza and the entire House’s special savoir-faire. To obtain the required sensation of lightness, the petites mains carefully cut, shaped, manipulated and stitched the fabric in such a manner that huge effort was needed. Fine organza sleeves allowed a subtle poetry to play out in a sprinkling of almost a hundred Chantilly lace floral bouquets. Each cluster of roses was cut out and sewn on meticulously to the fabric by hand.
