Animals 'missing' from Malacca Zoo
The recent death of a sun bear and a stallion at the Malacca Zoo and Night Safari shocked many.
As the dust has yet to settle, a new allegation has emerged that some 230 animals are ‘missing' from the same zoo.
The claim was made by zoologist Dr Razeem Mazlan Abdullah, who is the animal welfare and ethics sub-committee chairman of the zoo operators, breeders, pet and wildlife traders association (P4PHM).
Razeem said that the list of animals that have gone missing included several mammals, reptiles and birds that vanished in just two weeks after the first listing was completed on December 20.
This allegedly involves over 100 mammals, 27 reptiles, 57 birds of various species, including the Malayan Sun Bear, Malayan Tigers, dingos, spotted leopards and deer.
Nevertheless, the Malacca Zoo and Night Safari management reminded all parties to refrain from making wild allegations.
Its director, Azman Ghazali stressed that the issue should not be speculated as it affects the image and credibility of the zoo.
