KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa today called on Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) to work together to create a resilient digital community capable of acting in a knowledgeable, fair and progressive manner towards cyber wellness.
In conjunction with the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2022 - The Malaysian Edition themed 'KITA Siber', he said the emphasis was constantly being given on measures to develop self-control and a sense of responsibility in themselves and others to create a harmonious and progressive Keluarga Malaysia digital community.
The theme 'KITA Siber' derives from four dimensions of digital community wellbeing of (K) communication, (I) inclusivity, T (responsible) and A (closeness).
Annuar said the evolution of digital technology had indeed helped and facilitated the people in many ways, but they must also be prepared in the face of increasing threats and cyber attacks, apart from the risks of destroying moral values and ethical standards.
"I also urge the entire Malaysian Family to strive together to be ethical digital citizens with integrity in the face of increasingly complex cyber threats," he said in a statement.
Annuar said the SID is celebrated every year on Feb 8 across the globe with the theme of 'Together for a better Internet' being selected this year.
He said since its introduction in 2004 by the Safer Internet Centres network, Insafe Brussels, in collaboration with the European Commission, over 200 countries were now celebrating the day with the objective to enhance public awareness on the importance of safer internet.
The minister said it was also aimed at educating the public to be more ethical and responsible when using the technology, Internet and all digital devices.
Annuar said the SID - The Malaysian Edition began in 2010 with various themes introduced based on the current scenarios, threats and issues in the country.
"Happy Safer Internet Day 2022. Stay Wise, Stay Safe Together towards Cyber Wellness," he added.
