Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will bring the issue of declaring assets among Pakatan Rakyat's elected representatives, to the Pakatan leadership council meeting in the next two weeks for a final decision.
Anwar, who is also member of parliament (MP) for Permatang Pauh, said those holding public office should declare their assets while it was not required of those not holding public office.
"We could not ask every single citizen to declare their assets. I have to advise DAP chairman Karpal Singh, accordingly, and the right channel now is to bring it up during the Pakatan leadership council meeting for a final decision," he told reporters during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here today.
He was commenting on Karpal's call on coalition partners PKR and PAS to declare the assets of their elected representatives.
Anwar said he had no problem in declaring his assets and would advise Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, accordingly.
As for Penang's elected representatives, he said Penang MPs should also subscribe to the thinking of the Pakatan Rakyat council, including those holding office in the state government.
Earlier, Karpal, who is also Bukit Gelugor MP, said PKR de facto leader and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should direct its elected representatives to also declare their assets.
He said he had no problem declaring his assets and was waiting for Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to fix a date for Penang MPs to do so.
