A RM100 million defamation suit filed by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim against Khairy Jamaluddin in September 2007 was today resolved after both parties reached a settlement.

High Court judge Datuk Su Geok Yiam recorded the consent judgment when the case was mentioned in her presence.

Lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, who represented Anwar, told the court that since the defendant (Khairy) was now prepared to say that he did not say the offending words as opposed to the position taken earlier, the matter ended there and stood resolved.

No order was made as to cost. Judge Su also thanked both parties for saving the court's time. The trial which started yesterday was supposed to continue today.

In September 2007, Anwar filed a defamation suit and claimed that Khairy, as Umno Youth deputy chief at the time, had uttered defamatory statements about him at a political event in Kuala Kangsar in August 2007, which was then published in print and the electronic media on Aug 3, the same year.
