The MCA has slammed Kinabatangan member of Parliament Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin for his infamous tweet on Wednesday, saluting Adolf Hitler for Germany’s football team’s victory over Brazil.
In a press statement, MCA’s central committee member Datuk Ti Lian Ker called for Bung Mokhtar to apologise and retract the offensive tweet.
He also urged the controversial MP to “think hard and deep before opening his mouth”.
“From insulting women to disabled people, Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar is no stranger to controversy, but now his zero common sense in attributing Germany’s win to Hitler will make Malaysia the centre of a negative attention once again,” he said in the statement.
Hitler ruled Nazi from 1933 to 1945 and was responsible for the killing of millions of Jews during World War II.
Ti said he was appalled and ashamed by Bung Mokhtar’s tweet who was widely criticised for his tweeting “Well done…Bravo…Long live Hitler”.
“I am sure that even the Germans will be insulted to know that their triumph was being equated to the dictator who sparked a worldwide war, causing the genocidal death of millions,” he said.
Ti who is also the party’s religious harmony bureau chairman said Bung Mokhtar’s tweet might create the perception that Malaysia supported neo-Nazism and the annihilation of ethnicities deemed inferior.
He said racist ideology has no place in the colourful, sporting event of FIFA World Cup.
Bung Mokhtar became an MP since 1999. This is not the first time he sparked a controversy. Previously he was criticised for his insensitive statement on women, race and other issues.
