KUALA LUMPUR: The All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) on Integrity, Governance and Anti-corruption hopes for the cooperation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his administration to achieve some of the group's objectives before the Parliament is dissolved.
The group, in a statement today, said that it was aiming for the independence of institutions such as the Judiciary, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Election Commission (EC); as well as to separate the powers of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor.
"Improving the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 is also among the key focuses of the group," it said, adding that it had proposed the establishment of Parliamentary select committees for the MACC and EC," read the statement.
The APPGM on Integrity, Governance and Anti-corruption was established on Aug 23, with eight MPs from the government and opposition blocs, chaired by Tumpat MP Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi.
Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh is deputy chairman, while Fuziah Salleh (Kuantan MP) is secretary and Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah (Kubang Pasu MP) the treasurer.
The group also features members of civil society groups including #CorruptionBusters, Transparency International Malaysia, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) and the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4).
It also includes a group of experts such as political figure Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar and Karangkraf Group chairman Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.
