Approval needed to burn firecrackers, fireworks in ESSZone on CNY

The lighting of firecracker and fireworks during Chinese New Year (CNY) in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) should be in compliance with existing regulations to maintain safety and order.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) Commander DCP Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, in a statement today, said all quarters, including government bodies, non-governmental organisations, companies, resorts and individuals, are required to abide by the stipulated regulations.

He said those who had obtained written approval to light firecrackers and fireworks at their CNY events were required to inform the relevant authorities in their respective areas.

They are to inform the district police headquarters in their respective areas, the forward security control posts of the General Operations Force and the Malaysian Armed Forces on the date, time and location the firecrackers and fireworks would be used, he added.

Besides to maintain safety and order, he said, it was also to avoid the explosion from the firecrackers and fireworks from confusing security members. -- Bernama
