April 20 judgement for NFCorp case

Businessman Shamsubahrin Ismail lodged a report against the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFCorp) executive chairman after being influenced by individuals from the opposition party.

"It was obvious," Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), prosecution unit chief Datuk Abdul Razak Musa submitted at the end of Shamsubahrin's defence trial, in the Sessions Court here Wednesday.

He said the accused's police report against Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail was delivered to MACC by Subang MP R. Sivarasa of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Abdul Razak said Shamsubahrin had also admitted that lawyer N.Surendran, who is Padang Serai MP and lawyer Latheefa Koya, were present when he made the police report at the hospital.

"The accused only lodged the report a month after he was charged in court and clearly, it was an afterthought.

"The accused's defence is also one of mere denial and did not raise any doubt; rather, it has established the prosecution's case," he said in his submission before Judge Rozilah Salleh.

Urging the court to find the accused guilty on all the charges, Abdul Razak said the prosecution had produced overwhelming evidence and its witnesses' testimonies did not contradict one another.

The court has set April 20 for judgement.

On Dec 30, 2011, Shamsubahrin was charged with five counts of cheating Mohamad Salleh involving RM1.75 million and on June 18, 2012, was charged with 17 counts of money laundering.

He allegedly misled and induced Mohamad Salleh to pay him a 'consultancy fee' of RM2.75 million after telling the victim that he had been asked by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to help him.
