Armed robbery: youth trio get three years' jail

Three young men were sentenced to three years' jail and a stroke of the rotan each by the Sessions Court here after they pleaded guilty for robbing a man using a machete last year.
Judge Azrul Darus also ordered the trio Muhammad Huzaid Mohamad, Meor Ahmad Syafiq Meor Ahmad Faizal Al Syagul and Mohamad Kamarul Ariffin Zakri, all aged 21, to serve the jail sentence from today.
They used the machete to rob Choo Siew Mun, 34, of his cash of RM799 in a shop in Taman Muda Pandan Indah, Ampang, Selangor, at 1 am on June 28, last year.
The offence under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code provides for an imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Noor Fadzlin Abd Zawawi prosecuted, while the trio were represented by counsel S. Purnima. -- Bernama
