Arrested Khairuddin was to meet the FBI on Monday, New York Times says

Khairuddin’s lawyer, Matthias Chang in a phone interview with The New York Times said the appointment with the FBI was made with assistance from the US Embassy in Malaysia.

Khairuddin was arrested under Section 124C on charges of trying to overthrow the government, at residence in Mont Kiara, about 7.30pm Friday.

His wife Datin Seri Umie Aida said police seized some personal belongings, including a laptop, two mobile phones and sim cards.

"15 policemen arrived at our house, five to six of them went up and the rest waited downstairs at the condominium,” she told Astro AWANI, yesterday.

On Facebook, prior to his arrest, Khairuddin said police had asked him to appear at the Bukit Aman police headquarters on Monday to record his statement, following the evidence he had submitted to Swiss authorities in connection to national strategic investment firm, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Government officials had prior to this accused Khairuddin for forging 'false' and 'politically motivated' reports, with regard to the 1MDB issue.

A furious Khairuddin had also wrote on Facebook that he and his lawyer his lawyer were barred from leaving the country.

He said because of that, he had to forgo his trip to New York and London.
