A Malaysia-based regional counter-messaging communication centre to counter extremist propaganda is set to be launched in May this year.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia has allotted RM200 million as initial allocation for the development of the centre.

"We are using the existing models in the United States as well as in the United Arab Emirates and that is what we are going to set up in Malaysia.

"We have obtained an allocation of RM200 million as initial funding for this center," he said at a press conference after the closing ceremony of the International Conference on Deradicalisation and Countering Violent Extremism here today.

Zahid added that at least three agencies will be directly involved in the running of the centre.

Meanwhile, according to Ahmad Zahid, methods of combating terrorism should constantly be changed to prevent the worsening of the situation.

He said the international community must unite in drawing up new strategies and methods.

"Our need is sharing the expertise to create a stronger regional cooperation. We must continue to be enthusiastic.

"The answer and our objective are always the same. We must and we will stop them (terrorists and their activities)," he said.
