"Grounded in our shared aspirations for peace and prosperity, ASEAN-US relations have deepened into a comprehensive strategic partnership. The vibrant and tremendous economics of the US and Southeast Asia have the potential to create a golden age for all our nations," he said in his opening remarks at the 13th ASEAN-United States Summit here today.
Anwar noted that two-way trade between ASEAN and the US reached a record of USD453 billion last year, supporting millions of jobs and businesses across both regions.
"Today, we'll make the promise of our relationship ever greater," he added.
Present at the summit were US President Donald Trump and ASEAN leaders.
In his speech, Anwar welcomed Trump's comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict.
"It has given the world a glimmer of hope that even in the most intractable conflicts, diplomacy and determination can prevail.
"And we trust that with your leadership, Mr President, we'll achieve a just and durable peace," he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar also conveyed ASEAN's deep appreciation for Trump's vital role in facilitating the KL Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia.
He said the signing of the agreement was undoubtedly an achievement that reflects the strong political will of both nations' leaders and their people.
Earlier, Anwar and Trump witnessed the signing of the peace agreement, dubbed the KL Peace Accord, by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit, which officially commenced today.
