The rule that requires users to download a QR code application before entering any business premises is in violation of the laws set by the government.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, each state should implement the same rules as stipulated in the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
However, he said the use of QR codes was encouraged to simplify matters including preventing people from sharing personal information publicly.
“So, to prevent him (the user) giving his full name and writing down his phone number, (they) use the QR code through the application we have introduced.
"But if they do not have a QR code, our instruction is to write the name and phone number. So, to make the use (of QR code) compulsory, that is not permissible
"That is probably a regulation introduced by the state and it is against the SOP and Act 342 that has been introduced, as well as other regulations introduced by the government," he said at a press conference here today.
