Stabbing victim Ahmad Hawari Zakaria who was admitted at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) is showing positive signs of recovery after he was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and transferred to a normal ward.
Police on Monday morning has taken his statement over the incident which occurred at an apartment in Setapak, here late Friday night.
“I’m getting much better, quite stable and want to focus on recovery now,” said Ahmad Hawari, when met by Astro AWANI here today.
His sister, Nashrima Benjamin who is accompanying him at the hospital said her brother experiences breathing difficulties and doctor has advised him to rest.
“We are still grateful that he is conscious and could speak compared to yesterday. After being transferred from the ICU, he is showing positive response and we are very grateful for that,” she told Astro AWANI here today.
Nashrima said the family is planning to transfer Ahmad Hawari from HKL to a hospital in Putrajaya to make it easier for the family to look after him.
“For now, our family from Kuching, Sarawak is staying at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur ... we could not afford to stay there any longer. We are planning to move him to the Putrajaya hospital soon. Our aunt is staying in the vicinity and this will reduce our expenses here,” she said.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri also paid Ahmad Hawari a visit on Monday.
Nancy said together with Persatuan Anak Sarawak and Rumah Sarawak hospitals will hold a discussion to ease the coordination of this case.
She added, families who hail from Sarawak will normally face difficulties to look after patients who are admitted in hospitals in Kuala Lumpur.
“Patients will need a family member, at least to look after them, but for families who come from far will face problems including on their welfare.
“The Sarawak ministerial has discussed with Persatuan Anak Sarawak and Rumah Sarawak and decided to become a reference point for any case involving Sarawak folks,” Nancy said.
Nancy stressed that becoming the reference point role would ensure financial and welfare who need medical care.
