Prime Minister's son Mohd Naziffuddin Najib said the personal attacks on Datuk Seri Najib Razak scares investors and this in turn hurts the nation's economy and stability.
He said the continuous attacks can affect the people's support for the government and this can lead them to 'sacrifice' the country in their bid to topple the leader, Utusan Malaysia reported.
"Investors will be too afraid to come here as they will think the country is unstable and this will cause the Ringgit to fall and impact the economy as a whole," Nazifuddin was quoted saying after officiating the Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) cafe in Kuala Lumpur, Sunday.
Nazifuddin said the allegations leveled at his father are the work of certain quarters with their own agenda and aimed to topple Najib.
"Those quarters should realise that the pressure they are piling on him is not fixing the situation. On the contrary, it is worsening multiple aspects of the country and eventually we will all feel the effects," he said.
"I hope society is not easily influenced by the false rumours and they think about its implication towards the country's well-being in the long run," the paper quoted Nazifuddin as saying.
Najib is facing criticism from various quarters over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and allegations of large amount of funds being transferred to his personal accounts.
Najib had explained that the alleged funds transfer are not 1MDB money but political donations.
