Audi AG has some serious logistics changes coming up in the next few years. The company has announced that they are taking the next step into the future with the production of their newly introduced E-Tron, their first purely electric driven SUV.
The E-Tron will be produced in Brussels where the A1 is currently being produced. Production of the Audi A1 will be moved to Martorell in Spain while the Q3, currently produced in Spain will be moved the Gyor, Hungary.
Audi hopes to see the first battery-electric SUV to roll out in 2018, the sporty e-tron quattro SUV will fit between the flagship Q7 and the Audi Q5 in the brand’s product portfolio. There are three electric motors and a high-capacity battery that will have the range of more than 500km and will feature quick battery charging.
Not only will the plant in Brussels be producing the new E-tron, it will also be producing the batteries for the cars. Audi AG plants to turn the site in Belgium into the key plant for electric mobility at the Volkswagen Group.
Audi sees the model rotation benefit all of Audi’s global network hoping that the move would help protect jobs and promote the internationalisation of production network. “The new model distribution will enhance our production efficiency and strengthen all of the sites involved,” stated Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “It will allow us to utilize further synergies within the Volkswagen Group and to bundle key competencies.”
