Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said today blasted Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for her call to reclassify the Auditor-General's Report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) as a nonsecret document.
She described the call as indirectly questioning the credibility of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) including opposition members of parliament who are in the bipartisan committee.
She said opposition MPs in the PAC had full access to the report which had been presented to the committee, therefore there was no necessity to reclassify it as nonsecret.
"The situation is similar to asking to treat an investigation paper as a nonsecret document after prosecution and sentencing had been passed," she said in a statement here, today.
Azalina said the call showed that Wan Azizah did not understand the provisions in law including the status of 1MDB's establishment which was incorporated under the Companies Act 1965, and not a public body.
"Wan Azizah appears to be more interested in defending and diverting attention from the punishment received by the Pandan member of parliament (Mohd Rafizi Ramli) for exposing an official secret document," she said.
Wan Azizah was earlier reported by a news portal to have urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to reveal the report which is classified under the Official Secrets Act. -- BERNAMA
