KUALA LUMPUR:The success of the national track cycling icon, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang who topped the world rankings of the individual sprint event is considered a great achievement for the country.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said with the latest success, Azizulhasni who is known by the nickname 'The Pocket Rocketman' deserves to be called the World Sprint King.
"This success completes the glorious diary of the national sports arena after the success of former national squash queen, Datuk Nicol Ann David who was crowned winner of the World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time, earlier this month.
"I and all the sports fans in the country congratulate Azizulhasni," he said in a post on his Facebook account here, on Thursday.
In the meantime, Muhyiddin hopes that Azizulhasni's success will be an inspiration to young athletes as well as all cycling enthusiasts in pursuing their ambition to achieve success at the highest level.
"To Azizulhasni, make this success as a motivation to perform more brilliantly in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
"Well done Azizulhasni! You are the Pride of the Nation," he said.
