Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday said the dismissal of Mohd Azmin Ali from the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) board of director was not done according to the rules and regulations.
Therefore, he said the dismissal of the Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman who is also the PKR deputy president was invalid.
At a press conference, he said the process to drop Azmin from the PKNS board of directors did not adhere to the procedures.
“General manager does not have any power in dropping or dismissing the board director. Only the state government or the exco has the power to do so,” he said in a press conference held at the PKR headquarters on Thursday.
“So, since it was not done according to the right procedure, Azmin still is a director in PKNS,” he added.
Anwar said there was no valid reason to drop Azmin from the board of director as the Gombak member of Parliament had good track record.
“There is no valid reason to drop him,” he stressed.
The Opposition leader also said that the decision to remove Azmin from the board of directors was done without mutual agreement and the PKR leadership was also not consulted.
“What I am trying to say here is that no one is supporting the decision to drop Azmin and he is still a director of the board until his tenure expires in 2015,” he added.
Meanwhile, Azmin who was also present at the press conference declined to comment on the alleged bad blood between him and Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
“Anwar’s explanation is sufficient and I have no further comment. I think this issue can be resolved amicably,” he said.
Khalid had told media on Wednesday that he was not involved in the decision to drop Azmin from the PKNS Board of Directors and had stressed that the decision was made by PKNS general manager Othman Omar.
There were talks that the decision to drop Azmin was to 'clip his wings' before the PKR’s election in May this year.
