Baby found with throat slit, believed to be killed by own mother

A three-month-old baby was found dead believed to be slashed in the neck with a kitchen knife by her own mother here this afternoon.

In the 2.45 pm incident at the Kem Desa Pahlawan army quarters, the baby girl was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injury to her left neck.

Earlier, the father of the baby, an army corporal, was out running an errand while his wife stayed back together with their two other children, aged 11 and 6 years old.

The wife was said to be hallucinating before she proceeded to slit the throat of her youngest daughter Nur Areesa Sofea Jiry as her two other children ran out of the house.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Abdul Rahman Ismail said the 32-year-old suspect has been detained.

The body of the baby was sent to the Forensics Unit of the Raja Perempuan Zainab Kota Bharu II Hospital for an autopsy.

The suspect was believed to have suffered an emotional distress.
