A camping trip for two friends turned tragic after a tree uprooted and fell on one of them at Pantai Teluk Kampi.
Teoh Ah Thui, 66, had been camping with Teoh Guan Heng, 55, at the beach in the vicinity of Taman Negara around 7pm yesterday when he was crushed by the falling tree.
The Fire and Rescue Department in a statement said five officers who were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call had to cut and remove the tree bark to extricate Ah Thui's body.
Forest rangers, civil defence and police personnel were also sent to the location to assist, it said.
The statement said the body had been sent to Balik Pulau Hospital for post mortem while Guan Heng who was traumatised by the incident had also been referred to the same hospital for medical examination.
Meanwhile, Southwest police chief Supt Anuar Omar confirmed the incident and said police would investigate the matter. -- Bernama
