Ban on soup kitchen to be enforced after Hari Raya

According to a Malaysian Insider report that quoted Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan, it is not the ministry’s intention to enforce it for the sake of enforcing the law.

"We do not want to enforce it for the sake of enforcing the law. So we would like the non-governmental organisations to do this with us to keep the cleanliness in the city. If the homeless keep on occupying the public places all the time, how about the others who want to enjoy the same public area?” Adnan was quoted as saying.

Before this, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said that soup kitchens in Kuala Lumpur have until Monday (yesterday) to relocate out of the city centre if they do not want to be fined by City Hall.

However, he said, the NGOs are allowed to operate outside a 2km radius of Lot 10 in Bukit Bintang.

He came under fire for his statement, with various quarters labelling the government as cruel and heartless. Instead, Ku Nan had said instead said the government was committed to help them have a better life, including through the services provided at ”Anjung Singgah”.

In 2013, DBKL relocated 965 homeless people, 125 of whom were foreigners.
