MELAKA: The Independence Declaration Memorial Square in Banda Hilir, here, will be the main location for the Malaysia Day celebration 2022 this Friday.
The place will take on a more vibrant and lively atmosphere with various attractions in celebrating the historic occasion.
The preparations for the celebration on the formation of Malaysia include installation of the main stage, terrace seats for the spectators, huge screens, and audio systems at a number of strategic spots along Jalan Parameswara heading towards the square.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said he had been visiting the location with Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam this evening to ensure the plans and preparations went on smoothly.
"Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), everything is going on well and Melaka is proud to host the main celebration of Malaysia Day in the peninsula, while Sabah and Sarawak will have theirs," he added.
The Malaysia Day celebration here this time will feature a uniqueness with the theme of 50's and 60's fashion to add more merriment and visitors are encouraged to come in the era's fashion wear.
Sulaiman said the state government had asked its departments and agencies to put up many more of the Jalur Gemilang at their buildings and along the roads in Ayer Keroh up to Banda Hilir to heighten the celebration.
He said the local authorities would also do their part to enliven the surrounding areas, besides ensuring a lot of lights at the strategic locations.
"Hence, my advice to people who wish to come here for the celebration to come early to avoid acute traffic congestion," he added.
About 20,000 people from within and outside Melaka are expected to celebrate the Malaysia Day celebration 2022, held for the first time in this historical city.
