KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat) is offering a moratorium of up to six months to individuals and businesses affected by the recent massive floods in several states in Malaysia.

Chief executive officer Datuk Syed Abdul Aziz Syed Hassan said the initiative was aimed at reducing the financial burden borne by customers affected by the floods and at the same time facing financial constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Bank Rakyat is always committed to helping all our affected customers, which is in line with the aspirations of 'Keluarga Malaysia', and we hope this assistance can provide relief to those concerned about their financial commitments during these challenging times.

"Therefore, customers who face difficulties in continuing to repay loans/financing for subscribed products can apply for this moratorium assistance," he said in a statement.

The moratorium includes deferred payments under Bank Rakyat's Personal Financing-i, Housing Financing-i, Vehicle Financing-i, Vehicle Hire Purchase-i, Education Financing-i, and Micro Financing-i as well as deferment of profit payments for Mortgage-i.

Customers who wish to apply for assistance are urged to email [email protected] with relevant information such as their full name, identity card number, affected address, mobile contact number, type of financing, and a copy of their utility bill to confirm their address.

Affected customers are also advised to check the bank's website and branches in flood-stricken areas on the moratorium assistance or contact its call centre at 1-300-80-0800.
