Activist Hishamuddin Rais and PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli who were detained at the Dang Wangi police station following the May 1 rally on Friday, have been released on police bail.

When contacted by Astro AWANI, their lawyer, Sivamalar Genapathy confirmed the matter.

“Hishammuddin and Rafizi have been released on police bail about 1.30am early this morning,” she said.

Hishamuddin and Rafizi were detained by the police at 2.30pm Saturday and were investigated under Section 143 of the Penal Code in connection with organizing an illegal rally.

On Friday, it was estimated that some 10,000 people had gathered in front of KLCC, protesting the implementation of the Goods and Service Tax (GST).

The anti-GST demonstration was organised by the non-governmental organisation from May 1 Secretariat at various venues around Kuala Lumpur including Central Market, Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka and the National Mosque at around 2.30pm.

The 10,000-odd protesters then proceeded to Kuala Lumpur City Centre before the crowd dispersed around 5.30pm.
