May 1 will witness the peak of the weekly held Goods and Services Tax (GST) protest which started since its implementation in April.
The protest scheduled to be held tomorrow at 2.30pm is expected to start from Central Market and ended at KLCC.
Organized by the May 1 secretariat committee the protest targets one million people around the country to join them in Kuala Lumpur including political parties, non- governmental organizations (NGOs), professionals and students.
According to its spokesman, this effort is to urge the government to cancel the now implemented GST, immediately.
"Every citizen has a right to celebrate Labor Day. The celebration of Labor Day is also part of the International Labor Organisation (ILO).
"It is the Committee's tradition on May 1 to celebrate Labor Day by hearing speeches from community group representatives, watching performances and to read out a declaration which contains seventeen demands to the government.
“These demands are supported by 121 organizations. After the program we will walk from Central Market to KLCC.
“The Labor Day rally will also be monitored by the Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) and the State Council," added the spokesman in his statement.
It said, this year's celebration will also joined by Himpunan Hijau, Bersih, National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE), civil groups, young people, students, indigenous communities, urban settlers and plantation workers.
In March, the submission of the Memorandum to Customs by the Coalition against Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the Customs Headquarters in Kelana Jaya became chaotic after some clashes happen between the police and the Bantah GST secretariat.
Previously, the coalition called the "Gabungan Bantah Cukai Barangan dan Perkhidmatan" held a 'Flash Mob GST Protest' and 'Awareness Campaign of the Negative Effects of GST to the People' at several toll plazas across the country.
