PUTRAJAYA: The government will call on the Election Commission (EC) to present stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) to face the Batu Sapi Parliamentary By-Election (PRK).
Senior Minister (Defence Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the matter was to ensure that each SOP set would ensure safety, especially of voters in the area.
"We will call the EC either tomorrow or the day after to present a stricter SOP for the by-election.
"This is because, the by-election must be conducted because it is not the government's jurisdiction to prevent or delay it.
"Therefore, we will discuss the SOP with the EC to ensure the safety of voters in the constituency as well as reduce movement or contact with other individuals during the election period," he said in a press conference here on Tuesday.
Commenting further, Ismail Sabri said the matter would also be announced after all SOPs related to the by-election were finalised by the EC.
The Batu Sapi by-election is scheduled for December 5 following the death of its incumbent Datuk Liew Vui Keong on October 2.
