SERI ISKANDAR: Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has again established itself as the best private university in the country after being consistently ranked and progressing steadily in the world and nation rankings and ratings.
The ratings are the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Times Higher Education (THE), Malaysia Research Assessment Rating System (MyRA) and Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education (SETARA).
UTP in a statement today said it has been ranked 70th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2021 and has also recorded steady growth in the THE Asia University Rankings 2021, rising to 111th from 124th last year.
"It is also ranked 230th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021, where both its Petroleum Engineering and Mineral Engineering subjects are ranked in the Top 50 and the first in the nation," it said.
The statement highlighted that UTP is the only private university in Malaysia with a six-star rating (the highest performance level) in MyRA for its research, development and commercialisation.
UTP-RANKINGS 2 (LAST) SERI ISKANDAR
The statement also pointed out that in the recent QS World University Rankings 2022, the university has significantly improved its position, soaring 25 spots, from 439th to 414th.
"It has been gradually progressing in the rankings for the fifth consecutive years and consistently climbing the rankings.
"Since its debut in 2017, it moved up from 601-650 to 521-530 in 2019. Then, it broke into the top 500 and was ranked 482nd for the following year," it said.
The statement also mentioned that the university leapt 43 places to be ranked 439th for 2021's rankings and now risen 187 places in the rankings since 2017.
Meanwhile, UTP vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said UTP have participated in various rankings and rating initiatives as this was part and parcel of their efforts to cement the university standings and branding as a reputable academic partner for tertiary education and credible research partner for industry.
In conjunction with the announcement of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 results tomorrow, he would like to take this opportunity to invite students to apply for the September 2021 intake at https://www.utp.edu.my/Pages/Admission.aspx.
