Residents in Kuantan have been told to be prepared to face the second wave of floods as the Sungai Lembing Siren Station had blown its first warning.
Department of Irrigation and Drainage engineer Sumiliana Sulong said the first siren was blown at 3 pm Friday after the water level in Sungai Lembing reached 19.75 metres.
"The warning siren will be blown again if the water level in Sungai Lembing river reaches the danger level of 22 metres," she told Bernama here Friday.
She said if continuous heavy downpour occurred and the water level surpassed the danger level, Kuantan would be hit by floods within the next 12 hours.
Sumiliana said several low-lying areas here, including Sungai Isap, Chendering, Paya Besar and Lubuk Puyu, were also experiencing overflowing main drains.
"Therefore, we would like to advise residents in these low-lying areas to be prepared to face any possibility should the heavy downpour, which began yesterday, continue to persist. Please adhere to the authority's instruction if asked to evacuate," she added.
The recent floods in Pahang had claimed three lives and affected over 40,000 residents in nine districts.
