KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and PAS have agreed to continue strengthening cooperation in Perikatan Nasional (PN) to face the 15th General Election (GE15).
Both parties stressed that they also rejected any form of 'new alignment' to form a post-GE15 government, especially involving Pakatan Harapan (PH) and its allies.
Bersatu and PAS will also set up a meeting committee at the central level to formulate the party's strategy and direction to face GE15, including seat distribution negotiations.
“All decisions reached will be brought to the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council meeting to be finalised collectively among all component parties.
“Bersatu and PAS are always committed to strengthening the unity of the ummah and the unity of the entire plural society, and ready to work with any party that supports the concept.
"It simultaneously rejects any attempt to dismantle the unity that has already been established and any attempt to undermine the PN government that was built together," the two parties said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement, jointly signed by Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, said the decision was reached after the top leadership of the two parties met on Tuesday.
The meeting involved Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
"Bersatu and PAS call on all Malay, Islam and Bumiputera organisations and associations, especially country-loving Malaysians to unite to jointly fight in the same ranks for the future of a more successful Malaysia," said the statement.
