Bersih 3.0 report to be ready by year-end

The Independent Advisory Panel to probe the riots sparked by the Bersih 3.0 rally at Dataran Merdeka last April 28 is in the last phase of preparing its report which is expected to be ready before the year ends.
Its chairman, Tun Mohammed Haniff Omar, said several matters, including on the involvement of foreign security experts, were being worked out by the panel, including to get views on the method and approach of controlling such a riot in their countries.
He said the report by the panel would have 10 chapters and would provide in detail on the chronology of the event, as well as recommendations.
"The panel is satisfied with the report which will give a clearer and more accurate picture of what really happened on that day," he said during a press conference yesterday.
Mohammed Haniff said the preparation of the report was based on direct and circumstantial evidence.
He said the panel members interviewed 44 witnesses, including policemen, representatives from the media, Election Commission, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Syarikat Prasarana Negara, members of the public and participants in the gathering.
The panel had also watched 541 video clips, including from the police, Youtube and participants at the gathering, as well as visit the locations of the gathering, including Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut, Masjid Jamek, Lebuh Pasar Besar and Jalan Semarak, he added.
He said on July 18, the panel members visited the Selangor Royal Club where the participants were alleged to have been detained and assaulted by the police.
"The panel is looking for the owner of two four-wheel drive vehicles, one of them with registration number WJU842 to come forward to assist us in the investigation.
"This followed a claim that the vehicle was used as a 'jammer' on telecommunication equipment on that day," he added.
Asked whether the report would be disclosed to the public, Mohammed Haniff said that was for the government to decide.
